About us
We’re Christina and Andy - the Umbrella Thieves.
We’re a couple based in East London, originally hailing from Australia and California. We play with clay together in a local co-operative pottery studio and community.
Both of us have always been pretty creative, and we’ve been collaborating on artistic projects for a long time.
From sketching and painting, to designing clothing, to woodwork and whittling (including a brief foray into spoon-making), we’re motivated by the opportunity to share our creative expressions with each other, and with others - including you.
And if you’re lucky, maybe one day we’ll explain the origin of our brand name.
About our work
Our creative process is inherently collaborative.
While we both have our own strengths and preferences across a range of ceramic techniques, almost every piece of ours has each other’s fingerprints on it somewhere.
As for our work, we both take inspiration from a broad range of design themes and aesthetics and create unique, handmade ceramic pieces to realise our collective imagination.
And, while we’re two individuals, it certainly helps that our personal tastes and styles are consistent.
We’re interested in brutalist European architecture, traditional American tattoo designs, Japanese pottery and gothic maximalism - and you can see nods to these influences across our work together.
